COME JOIN US!
Open Enrollment in Wisconsin began February 2nd and runs until April 30th. Please consider joining our fantastic school. W-C is a great place for students to grow and flourish!
Why is Washington-Caldwell a special place? Besides having outstanding students, caring and competent staff, and very supportive parents, our school is configured in ways that educational researchers find very conducive to students in the elementary school years. Several studies show that having students grouped K-8 in the same school results in:
And now . . . the rest of the story:
For the Weeks of March 2-6 and March 9-13, 2015:
Thank you to our parents who attended conferences this past week. Parent-Teacher Conferences provide a great opportunity to cement the relationship between home and school. However, conferences are not the only opportunity to do so. I invite (and urge) parents to contact school and your children’s teachers whenever you wish. Let’s keep those lines of communication always open!
Our Lady Bulldog Basketball Teams have begun their season. We wish our student/athletes and coaches great success representing our school. GO BULLDOGS!
Speaking of basketball, the fifth annual Bulldog Classic Basketball Tournament will be held this coming week, Thursday through Sunday. I want to thank Mr. Mark Collins for all of his efforts in organizing this fantastic event. Plus, I also want to thank our many volunteers who will assist Mr. Collins in making this year’s event a big success!
Even though we still have 3½ months remaining before the close of the school year, we want our students to come to school dressed appropriately. We call it “Dressing For Success” and this helps not only our school climate, but also helps our students understand that school is a place where we dress for the tasks at hand. “Dressing For Success” also helps students realize the expectations in the work place when they begin their career.
Attendance is very important, too! Each day, hour and minute is crucial to learning. I like to say, “Now is not the time to slow down or ease up. Now is the time to keep your eyes on the finish line – and pour it on!” What a great time to set the following goal: Perfect attendance for the remaining days of school!
Calling school? You will find our phone system much more user-friendly especially after the school day has ended by dialing a directory of staff extensions so a message can be left for staff members.
Please drive safely at all times around school. Remember to wear seat belts at all times – seat belts save lives! Also, please remember when picking up students at the end of the day to park in the east parking lot. Do not park in front of the school since our buses are there to pick up students at dismissal time.
Please remember that besides my writing this weekly “Superintendent’s Bulletin Board Message” column that is posted each Friday on our school’s website by clicking on “Dr. P’s Weekly Message”, I also encourage visitors to our website to click on “Future Focus” to see all of the various accomplishments and activities W-C has been involved in during the past few years. Let me know what you think. Thank you!
We thank our school community for its continued support of the school children at Washington-Caldwell!
GO BULLDOGS!

Besides having outstanding students, caring and competent staff, and very supportive parents, our school is configured in ways that educational researchers find very conducive to students in the elementary school years. Several studies show that having students grouped K-8 in the same school results in:
- Students having greater opportunities at building successful relationships with staff over the course of nine years.
- Parent involvement can improve because parents are usually happiest with their children’s elementary school experiences. Parents are more likely to stay involved in their children’s school lives longer because of the positive experiences gained by being comfortable in the same school with staff.
- Middle school students in K-8 schools behave differently than in a middle school (i.e. grades 6-8). Middle school students in a K-8 school take on the role of protector and role model for younger students.
- Internal student accountability increases in K-8 schools because teachers personally know the students they are sending from their classroom to the next. As a result, middle school teachers have a better knowledge of students they will be teaching.
- More students can be involved in programs offered in a K-8 school. At Washington-Caldwell, for example, students are encouraged to participate in activities they may not be afforded in a larger school. Student newspaper, forensics, student council, National Junior Honor Society, K-Kids, media nights, athletics, cheerleading, special reading events, and other clubs/organizations are just a few activities available to our students.
