Washington-Caldwell “Exceeds Expectations” on School Report Card
-- Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction
The Wisconsin DPI issues School Report Card scores for public schools in the state. Washington-Caldwell’s School Report Card score was a 77.9 or “Exceeds Expectations.” We moved up 5.9 points from our “Meets Expectations” score from two years ago! How did we accomplish this improvement? First of all, we are more focused on what we are doing each day at school. When I say “we” I mean teachers, support staff, AND students.
We also:
1. Instituted M.A.P. testing that gives us additional data as to where our students are presently achieving and how we can assist students in improving performance,
2. Investigated how we use our time. For example, use of classroom instructional time, as well as recess time in Kindergarten through Grade 4,
3. Engaged students more by specifically doing a better job explaining the importance of standardized tests. Whether we like it or not, standardized testing is a part of our lives,
4. This engagement effort focuses on all students and is year-round and not just at standardized testing time.
5. Parent involvement is extremely important, too! We encourage and welcome parental involvement which is crucial to student success.
This “School Report Card” is part of the accountability system that Wisconsin has established. Several other states have moved in this direction, too. The purpose of the “School Report Card” is to give additional information as to how public schools in Wisconsin are doing in their efforts to help students grow. As always, if you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at 262-662-3466, ext. 161 or [email protected].
I invite you to visit our website and click on “2015-2016 School-Wide Goals.” These school board adopted goals will keep us focused on improving student achievement in 2015-2016.
One of the goals is to continue the administrative succession plan adopted three years ago by our school board. This plan began the process of appointing Ms. Jill Saltzmann as my successor. This year Ms. Saltzmann is the full-time principal at Washington-Caldwell. As a result, I am now working part-time (approximately five days per month). Ms. Saltzmann has also embarked on her district administrative license coursework that will lead her to assuming the superintendent’s role next school year. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Ms. Saltzmann. Her school number is 262-662-3466, ext. 166 and her email address is [email protected]. Ms. Saltzmann will welcome your comments, suggestions, and ideas.
Let’s continue to work together to help make our school the very best for our young people! Thank you for your continued support!
