This is a very busy time of the year. However, it is a very positive time, too, as we combine end-of-year curriculum projects with fun activities.
This past week we experienced a wonderfully successful “Senior Brunch” on Wednesday morning. Over 180 people – a record – spent the morning at our school enjoying good food, a great musical performance by our students, and warm fellowship. Our school was showcased in a very positive light and I want to thank all staff who assisted in making this event a big success!
As mentioned, our students performed excellently during their performance on Wednesday during the day and in the evening. Emily, our music teacher, planned a wonderful Spring Concert that was enjoyed by all.
On Thursday, we had a special 5th Grade C.A.R.E. (Community Awareness Resistance Education) Program graduation. During the past ten weeks, our 5th Graders have been learning various strategies to help them work through issues they may come across. Issues discussed included: Stranger Dangers, How to say NO to drugs, How to help a friend in need, Communication, etc. Modeled after the D.A.R.E. Program that lost county funding several years ago, the C.A.R.E. Program was piloted by Mr. Tim Borowski as a part of his master’s degree project from the University of Wisconsin – Platteville. Also, supporting this effort was the Town of Waterford Police Department. At Thursday’s graduation, Town of Waterford Police Chief, Tom Ditscheit, spoke to the students. What made the event so special is that it took place during “National Police Week.” We are grateful to Mr. Borowski and the Town of Waterford Police Department for supporting this important program. Our kids loved it and their teachers, Mrs. Keuler and Mr. Dehne, had high praise for it, too!
Memorial Day is on Monday, May 25th and we will be no school as we remember the many men and women who have given their lives in service to our great nation so we might live in freedom. Please take a moment to remember these brave individuals.
Parents please continue to dress your children appropriately. Very warm weather will continue this week. But, we all know: May brings flowers, but also rain. Thank you.
Please drive safely at all times around school. Remember to wear seat belts at all times – seat belts save lives! Also, please remember when picking up students at the end of the day to park in the east parking lot. Do not park in front of the school since our buses are there to pick up students at dismissal time.
Thank you for your support for the students and staff at Washington-Caldwell!
