HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY!
For the Week of February 9, 2014:
Open Enrollment in Wisconsin begins February 2nd and runs until April 30th. Thanks for talking up our school! Washington-Caldwell is a great place for students to grow and flourish!
Wonder why Washington-Caldwell is a special place? Besides having outstanding students, caring and competent staff, and very supportive parents, our school is configured in ways that educational researchers find very conducive to students in the elementary school years. Several studies show that having students grouped K-8 in the same school results in:
Monday evening at 6:30 in the library, the monthly PTO meeting will take place. Please attend! I want to encourage parents to get actively involved in our Parent Teacher Organization. Besides the many exciting things our PTO does for our students and staff – it’s fun! GO PTO!
This week on Monday and Wednesday after school, Media Night will take place from 3:40-5:00 p.m. Permission slips are required.
Yearbook orders are due on Friday.
Also, carnations will be distributed on Friday.
Saturday is Valentine’s Day. I wish everyone a very Happy Valentine’s Day!
The Bulldog Girls Basketball season has begun. Our team is practicing in anticipation of their games. We wish all of our student/athletes and their head coach, Mr. Bill Rohner, and assistant coach much success representing our school. GO BULLDOGS!
The Boys Basketball “A” Team will compete in the conference tournament on Friday at Wheatland Center. Best wishes BULLDOGS!
Winter weather is still upon us! Please dress your children appropriately. Also, please listen to area T.V. and radio stations for school closing information due to inclement weather. It’s Wisconsin!
Please drive safely at all times around school. Remember to wear seat belts at all times – seat belts save lives!
Thank you for your continued support for the students and staff at Washington-Caldwell!
GO BULLDOGS!

Besides having outstanding students, caring and competent staff, and very supportive parents, our school is configured in ways that educational researchers find very conducive to students in the elementary school years. Several studies show that having students grouped K-8 in the same school results in:
- Students having greater opportunities at building successful relationships with staff over the course of nine years.
- Parent involvement can improve because parents are usually happiest with their children’s elementary school experiences. Parents are more likely to stay involved in their children’s school lives longer because of the positive experiences gained by being comfortable in the same school with staff.
- Middle school students in K-8 schools behave differently than in a middle school (i.e. grades 6-8). Middle school students in a K-8 school take on the role of protector and role model for younger students.
- Internal student accountability increases in K-8 schools because teachers personally know the students they are sending from their classroom to the next. As a result, middle school teachers have a better knowledge of students they will be teaching.
- More students can be involved in programs offered in a K-8 school. Here at Washington-Caldwell, for example, students are encouraged to participate in activities they may not be afforded in a larger school. Student newspaper, forensics, student council, National Junior Honor Society, K-Kids, media nights, athletics, cheerleading, special reading events, and other clubs and organizations are just a sampling of activities available to our students.
- Technology opportunities! All middle school students are provided with iPads; increased computer availability for students in K-5; newly renovated Innovation Center provides additional computer opportunities for all students.
